Water tower under construction
Our waterproject in Tanzania is making progress. The underground pipelines have been installed, now the water tower is under construction. We expect that we can open the taps in September for the 12.000 villagers of Maganzo and Masagala so they will finally be able to benefit from clean drinking water close to home.
The photo on the left highlights the urgence of clean drinking water in this area once again: this is the place where villagers now get their water. A poor polluted puddle. On the photo on the right you see the team of engineers who are working on the construction of the water tower.
Prepaid meter
The next step will be the installation of the waterblocks, the taps and the prepaid payment system. Each new or rehabilitated water outlet that ICS creates will have a Susteq meter for pre-paid cards. Locals can pay directly for the exact amount of water they need with smartcards they can credit in participating local shops. The profits generated are put into the maintenance of the system, repairs when necessary and the quality control checks. This is the only way to make sure the taps will continue to deliver clean and safe drinking water on the long term.
