ICS signs contract with Kenya Kinderen Foundation
ICS director Ronald Messelink has signed a partnership contract this week with Kenya Kinderen Foundation. In the village of Maai Mahiu in Kenya ICS will start with research and test drilling to find out whether it's feasible to install three new water outlets in this community.
Kenya Kinderen Foundation have been offering financial support to an orphanage in Maai Mahiu for many years now. They have realised, amongst other things, toilets, showers and a new extension. Access to clean drinking water however, has always been a problem in this village. For that reason both parties have decided to cooperate to provide the 8.000 villagers of Maai Mahiu with safe drinking water.
The research and test drilling have to prove whether the source contains enough water to build a sustainable and profitable water system. If that's the case ICS will realise three water outlets with three taps each. Each outlet will have a Susteq meter for pre-paid cards, just like our water projects in Western Kenya and Tanzania. Locals can pay directly for the exact amount of water they need with smartcards they can credit in participating neighbourhood shops.
The profits generated are put into the maintenance of the system, repairs when necessary and the quality control checks. This is the only way to ensure that the water outlets continue to supply clean and safe drinking water over the long term.
